Jones spent years breathing new life into the music of others and made a name for herself as the 'Queen of Austin Soul.'

    Shortly after arriving on the Austin Music Scene at age 21, Sue Foley was recording for Antone's, the blues label and historic nightclub. This Canadian blues guitarist and singer has released 15 albums since her debut with Young Girl Blues (1992). She has gone on to win numerous nominations and awards toting her signature pink paisley Fender Telecaster.

Lurleen's strong connection to her audience is channeled through her experience helping those in need while addressing her own personal struggles. “I strive to combine enduring and accessible songwriting with powerful and nuanced vocals”.

    Shelley King is royalty in Texas. A celebrated singer, songwriter and band leader. Shelley’s live shows are fun musical parties. Featuring rich, soulful vocals, her songs take you on a musical journey and across musical genres, two-step to zydeco, blues to bluegrass, from the church to the dancehall. Shelley has won numerous Austin Music Awards including “Song of the Year” and “Roots Rock Band of the Year”. The Texas Legislature appointed her State Musician in 2008.

TeXchromosome is a non-profit organization founded and operated by seasoned female musicians who selflessly give of their time and resources as a labor of love for music and the arts. TeXchromosome Radio serves up a unique blend of all female programming and is expanding services.

  • Kate Howard Wavemakers Women in Music

    Kate Howard

    After writing her first song at 50, Kate started performing her songs in public. With the encouragement of a songwriting group, She wrote over 300 songs in 7 years. She released her debut album, “The Best Medicine”, in 2021 at the age of 58. “About 15 years ago, I was diagnosed with an as-yet incurable neuromuscular movement disorder called dystonia. Since having brain surgery 3 years ago, my singing voice has gotten stronger, and my life has improved dramatically. I’m forever grateful to my doctors, HAAM, and the music community for making this miracle possible.”
